What is a yacht?

Yacht is a designation for a relatively wide range of small boats in history and today.
Originally, these were small military ships,
today the term is mainly used for sports and recreational boats.

The term yacht comes from the Dutch yacht meaning hunting.
This type of ship was developed in the first half of the 17th century and was used to fight against pirates.
It was a 15-23 m long ship armed with a maximum of 10 light guns.

Displacement varied between 100-200 tons.

After Charles II returned on one of these ships. Stuart to England
and placed 15 of these vessels in the British Navy,
the yacht also became known as a vessel for high-ranking personalities.

For example, one yacht from 1640 was owned by Tsar Peter the Great.
